In front of the Civic Tower, you can find Via Danesi which leads to the old Castle of Rosignano, which is set on the top of the hill. It was a military garrison during the Wars of Succession in the Monferrato and during the period of the Franco-Spanish battles in Italy.
This private building has undergone many extensions and changes. The central part was built right on the stone and it dates back to the XIV Century. From the castle you can appreciate a magnificent view on the Alpes and on the Monferrato, on the back side of the castle you can see the rests of an ancient chapel.
Many underground tunnels branched out from the castle and they allowed the soldiers to leave the fortified village. Next to the castle there was the branch office of the “Capitano del Popolo”, which guided the army created to protect the communities’ freedom (XIV Century).
